Going under the knife!

No, I'm not having surgery, but I'd like your opinion on plastic surgery.

Would you ever consider it? Would you ever encourage someone else to have it? Do you think there's a biblical basis for or against it?

Interesting question. There are different forms of plastic surgery and different reasons behind pursuing it. A former co-worker wanted to appear more 'in shape' and so had liposuction more than once. She was already thin and her perspective was one only of vanity. I disagree with the perspective, thus the need, for the surgery.

I have a few other friends that have had a breast reduction. They were struggling with headaches, backaches, neckaches, etc. Not minor health issues. I think this form of surgery is needed for long-term health.

I don't have a biblical basis for or against necessarily, except perhaps in regards to attitude. The Lord cares where our heart lies. He has provided doctors to help with our healthcare. If our heart is in the right place, I don't see a reason not to use the healthcare that is at our disposal.

I agree with what's already been said. I think it's where the heart lies that counts.

When I was a teenager, I wanted plastic surgery very badly. I burned my right calf in a 4 wheeler accident when I was 13 and was left with a dark purple scar a little larger than a snack-size candy bar. I used to get made fun of when I wore shorts (teenagers can be cruel!) and could only hide it by wearing jeans. My parents told me that if it still bothered me when I was eighteen, I could get a scar revision done (wouldn't eliminate the scar but would make it less noticible), but by that time, it had finally started to fade and I had grown used to it. It's barely visible now (13 years later!), but I still remember how much I hated my legs as a teenager b/c of it.

I agree with Alyssa on the Biblical perspective as well as agreeing with the idea that it depends on why you're having the surgery.

My younger sis had a breast reduction and tummy tuck after having her quadruplets. I think she needed that. At age 24 your body shouldn't have skin sagging like she did. And as for her breast reduction, she needed that even before the babies, but definitely needed it after them! So, I definitely know that it is a good thing in some cases!
